Discounts galore.<br \/>\n<!--more The spoils?--><br \/>\nFound the twice-bought-already classic ( IMO) <i>Summer of 42<\/i>, by Herman Raucher for 30 rupees. This time, I am not letting it out of my sight.<\/p>\n<p>AA Milne &#8211; <i>The House on Pooh Corner<\/i>, a hardbound edition, for 25 rupees. <\/p>\n<p>Shirley Jackson &#8211; <i>The Lottery and Other Stories<\/i> &#8211; Hardcover, 135 Rs. A writer praised by Stephen King for her contributions to the horror genre. Got this in the first stall we went to, and I almost missed this, because I got confused between Shirley Jackson and the other infamous Shirley, la Maclaine.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Heinlein &#8211; <i>I Will Fear No Evil<\/i>, 30 Rs. I don&#8217;t believe this, but I don&#8217;t have the e-version of this particular book!<\/p>\n<p><i>Armageddon 2419 A.D.: The Seminal &#8220;Buck Rogers&#8221; Novel<\/i> by Philip Francis Nowlan, Rs 25. I bet this is going to be good.<\/p>\n<p>Valerio Manfredi &#8211; <i>Alexander: The Ends of the Earth<\/i>. Volume 3 of the series, and my cup doth be full. Definitely a lucky break, for 70 Rs.<\/p>\n<p>Orson Scott Card &#8211; <i>The Seventh Son:Book one of the Alvin Maker series<\/i>, 75 Rs. <a href=\"http:\/\/contentedbloke.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">contentedbloke<\/a>, this is all your fault, really. Thanks for introducing me to a great writer, and I hope this series turns out well, too.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen R Donaldson &#8211; <i>Lord Foul&#8217;s Bane: Book One of Thomas Covenant, Unbeliever<\/i>, 75 Rs. Another series I had heard quite a lot about, and thought I would give it a try.<\/p>\n<p>Frank Herbert &#8211; <i>Dune, Dune Messiah <\/i>, Rs 30 and Rs 70 each. Books 1 and 2 of the Dune series.Technically I have both, but they are still unavailable in the market, and I thought I could help out some needy friend. So, anyone want?<\/p>\n<p>Meg Cabot &#8211; <i>The Princess Diaries book 4<\/i>, Rs 50. Hats off to Meg Cabot for writing such an endearing life-history of Pricess Amelia Thermopolis. I found all three books white-heat reads, and this one starts off on an interesting note, too. Yeah, I am reading girlie fiction. So <i>freakin<\/i> what? Hunh? Hunh? HUNH?<\/p>\n<p>Philip Pullman &#8211; <i>The Subtle Knife<\/i>, Rs 75. So I bought book 3 first, now I got book 2. Please god, let me find book 1 at a proper discount sale so I can get started with the series.<\/p>\n<p>Also, on Sunday, I had bought <i>The Minority Report and Other Stories<\/i> by Philip K Dick, and <i>Ain&#8217;t It Cool<\/i> by Harry Knowles ( which I am reading right now) and <i>The Road to Wellville<\/i> by T Coraghessan Boyle.<\/p>\n<p>near misses: <i>Tales from Watership Down<\/i> by Richard Adams, which Rishi bought for a princely 100 Rs.<br \/>\nFound a book on indie-film-makers with bios ( pretty detailed, too) of people like Fincher, Tarantino, the Coen brothers, which was priced at 200 Rs. <i>Sari and Sins<\/i> by Nisha Minhas ( more girlie romances, yes, I loved <i>Chapatti or Chips<\/i>)was on sale for 200, and I didn&#8217;t want to spend so much.<\/p>\n<p>And, and, and: The Mahabharata, the <i>complete<\/i> Mahabharata, translated by Kishori Mohan Ganguli, in four humongous paperback volumes at 1600 rupees ( and 9 hardcover volumes at 3500). Now this was something I had seen three years ago at the selfsame Book Fair, and I am betting it was the same stall. I was a penniless college student then, and couldn&#8217;t even <i>think<\/i> of buying it.  And now, I can do more. I can actually buy it.
