Just back from a panipuri spree at Abids. Yes, this is a weekday, and I am supposed to be in the office, but some temptations are just too hard to resist. Sni wanted to buy a cellphone, and she wanted it today, so off we went. The post-shopping celebration was, of course, a panipuri treat.
I had 25.
Right now, my mouth feels like if I hold a kerosene-doused stick near it, and go “foooooooooo” , with just the right amount of pressure, the stick will go *whump * as it bursts into flame.
I also dropped in at MR book stall. They have two new Michael Moorcock books, an Elric SF Masterworks edition and another one. Also the Definitive Tolkien companion, all for 70 rupees. I fled before I could find anything I couldn’t resist.
please please god stop me from going to MR again today evening,….
Abids? Hyderabad? Never seen MR bookstall though. Maybe on my next visit… :)
Drop me a mail before you come to Hyderabad next time…will definitely take you around to MR and Best Book Stall.
Is the MR bookshop better than Best Bookstall?
The best pani puri I’ve had in Hyderabad is at Gangotri (Qawah) on Jublee Hills Road No 36! How is the one at Abids?
MR bookstall has a smaller collection than Best. but occasionally they come up with brilliant titles. Like, recently, I got Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho and Joseph Campbell’s Hero of a Thousand Faces for very cheap. And even the Bone comics ( though I haven’t bought them yet)
The problem with MR is that they price their books higher. The average cost of a like-new paperback in Best is between 50-95, while in MR, it’s something between 80-150.
Is Gangotri a very sanitized place? What I like about Abids’ panipuri is its unapologetic lack of hygiene. ;-)
I WANT PANI PURI TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! *sniff*
Oh great. Come to Kathmandu and don’t come to Hyderabad and that’s what’s gonna happen.
I wish I had your strength. You found these gems for SEVENTY bucks, and resisted buying them. I went out yesterday and bought the new PC Gamer(UK), Skoar, the Marvel Mangaverse book, AND the demon haunted world. Damn dude, I am running out of money here, mind if I steal your perseverence?
Whoa! Someone commenting on my perseverance is slightly rare. ;-)
P.S I think I will buy those books ( and some more) over the weekend.
Heh. But You get books for real cheap there. I have to dole out serious Cashola here. I think I’ll have to move…
I think I’ll have to move…
Oh cool!! Come to Hyderabad. :-)
I just might… I love the city anyways :)
Whoa! Someone commenting on my perseverance is slightly rare. ;-)
slightly??? rarer than rare.. in your case.. this one must be new.. ;)
Oh great! Whatever happened to appreciation? I thought u would be proud of my self-control, too.
I got The Demon Haunted World by cashing in on an Amazon gift certificate in 1999, and a vacationing friend took care of the shipping and handling. It’s floating around Bangalore somewhere now, among my fiction-preferring friends circle.
If you are a regular Sagan reader, there’s nothing much that is new in it, but what there is, should be required reading in schools. Have any other books by ye olde dear-departed pothead?
Well, I’ve got Contact, and somebody somewhere in Delhi has my copy of The Dragons of Eden
Ah.
have you got some?
Very few, but I’ve read most of his oeuvre (always wanted to use that word somewhere; sure does look awkward).
perfect usage though…
I had 25.
Do u do anything in moderation?
;-)
Did you just call me an extremist? :-D
I’m rather fond of Pani-puri … but 25 !?!
Another thing i haven’t had for over a year – pretty big list, that.
I usually find that i can devour huge quantities of panipuri, popcorn and papad…
;-)
i command you to stop.
there, did it help?
