Comicbook-related observations, mostly random

My favourite comicbook movies of all time:

5) The Crow
4) X-Men 2
3) Sin City
2) Spiderman 2.
1) Go ahead, take a guess.

gotjanx-saar, does this answer your question?

Landmark now seems to have copies of Bone: The One Volume Edition on sale for 1800 Rs. It’s a brilliant book, so if you can spare some cash, pick it up.

The Blade of the Immortal volumes there have #1 missing. Damn.

Blossom is now selling Sandman volumes at a 20% discount – the price range of each volume is between 400 and 610 Rs.

Read the first Starman collection “Sins of the Father” last night. Quite different from what I had expected. James Robinson rocks – he effectively made his letter columns an open forum for discussing collectibles and collectors. I have a strong feeling I am going to end up buying the complete series off eBay sometime.

  1. *sob* Thank you!

Man, Chris Nolan, man. Smart plot and dialogues anyday over CGI crap. And the cast, the cast. Finally, we are over the Tim-Burton-goth-drama.

Batman good. Starman good.Bone..err. 2 out 3. Not bad. Can do better :)

    Judge Dredd

I understand that Dredd can be no one’s favourite comic adaptation, but Alan Grant’s work on Dredd has been the most consistently brilliant work I have read. Now, to the key question: are there any places in South India where you have seen Dredd comics, used or new, at expensive or throwaway prices, please do let me know. Since I am not a LiveJournal user, I will give you my ID: rajenprabhu@gmail.com

I go by the name of Sumo, no real alias, just a tribute to my girth. I am your #1 fan (strictly from a quizzing perspective). Thanks dude

    • Re: Judge Dredd

      Heyyy, I know you!! :)

Both Alan Grant and John Wagner’s contributions to Judge Dredd were awesome, I agree. I used to love the Eagle reprints from the 80’s, which were easily available then. Hint: try and check out another comicbook called Sam Slade, Robohunter, also by John Wagner. Hilarious scifi with mindblowing Carlos Ezquerra art.

Answer to key question: There happens to be a magazine shop near KC Das on Church Street that keeps having an old foreign magazines sale at The Only Place ( which is a restaurent on Museum Road) every one-two months. I picked up a stack of year-old Judge Dredd magazines and Megazines, as well as issues of 2000 AD for 40 and 80 Rs respectively. These are *not* by Alan Grant, but certain issues have reprints of older stories by Grant, among others. I will ask them if they have stock lying around.

I do have a CD-ful of old Judge Dredd scans with me. Check your mail for details. :-)

    • I bought a couple of Cerebus volumes early this year. Only problem is – volume 2 got missed out, so I am stuck at volume 1, with 3 and 4 unread, just because I am waiting for a chance to buy the second volume, or leech it off a friend.

      • I’ve just got Vol.1 as of now, and I’m trying to find the rest. I did, however, manage to download most of it, so if you don’t mind reading it on your computer so you can proceed to Vols 3 and 4, I could point you to where you can find it.

And I made good use of that Auction Sniper link on your blog. After being brutalized in two previous auctions, I finally managed to get a complete run of The Preacher. Thanks :)

        • Now Auction Sniper is something that’s made my existence more meaningful. It’s the first piece of software I didn’t hesitate to pay for. Tried quite a bit of other sites too, power-snipe, bidnapper – but auction sniper was THE tool. Glad I could help out a fellow comiclover.

That said, how much did you pay for the Preacher run?

A friend of mine has already downloaded the complete Cerebus run, and I am waiting for him to send me a copy. In the meantime, I scour eBay for low priced Cerebus vol 2 auctions. :-)

          • After my two remaining free snipes (which I shall have to think long and hard about), I think I’m going to pay for it too. And, I actually think you might have got some free snipes because you referred me :)

I got the Preacher run for $78.10, including shipping. I’ve read it all, but I can’t wait to actually read the print version. I love the artwork in that comic – gruesome as hell, but very well done.

And heck, eBay’s bloody addictive. All I can think of now is what to look for next. Gah.
