Couple of photos from Sunday’s book-crawl at Abids.
These two were taken inside the Abids outlet of Best Book Stall. Normally, I am too jaded to try poke into the mysterious piles – call it a book-hunter’s quarter-life crisis. But this Sunday, I did, and found loads of stuff, heh heh.
Notice the pile of comics near the guy’s feet?
The price makes it oh-so-tempting! Any book for 20 Rs. Loads of crappy stuff, but finding a collection of Clive Barker’s plays or Irvine Welsh’s Ecstasy in such a pile makes up for eyeballing all the other stuff.
This is where it begins, right next to a Government Boys’ High School. The Abids bus-stand is right behind me, and the sugarcane juice seller has been here ever since I remember ( 1998 was the first time I was here…)
Arghh …… they tortures usss! We haaaatesss you!
We haaaatesss you!
*Joins the chorus*
Humph!
Muhuhahahahahaha.
déja vu! =)
Heh heh heh.
Abids Book Bazaar ruleth.
Absolutely!
Nice pictures. Makes me want to walk those roads again.
I had almost forgotten the face of the owner of Best Books (Mr. Ahmed, wasn’t that the name?)
Thanks.
Even I haven’t seen him quite some time. He’s not been keeping well lately, and if I need to buy something that hasn’t been priced yet, one of the other two guys ( hauz and akbar) call him up, and he says – “Let Satya quote a price, take whatever he says.”
The place rocks!
Oh yes, it does!
Nostalgia. Even Bombay’s Church Street has a lot of such ten rupee, twenty rupee stalls, where an occasional treasure surfaces.
Does it have them still? I heard Flora Fountain has been cleared of such vendors?
Where is Abids?
… on Avenue Road? Can you post landmarks?
gracias
Re: Where is Abids?
Its in Hyd.
Re: Where is Abids?
It’s in Hyd, like Brainz said. In fact, if you are in Hyd, anybody would tell you where Abids is.
Auggggh! Thou temptest us to quit job and move to Hyd.
Ye hate clubbers, count me in too.

Ah! So you noticed the subliminal message, misssterrr Shamanth?
Abids. Sigh. Ask them if they remember any twelve year olds running manically up and down the road every Sunday, long long ago.
The number of twelve year olds seems to be drastically down now, by the way. I didn’t see any young ‘uns there.
Yep, it’s more of the 25 year olds and 60 year olds in Abids.
It’s the perfect way to meet a life partner, I used to imagine : as we both reach out to pick the same issue of MAD magazine! :))))
Whaaa!
Likey? :)
I LOVED that pic of the sugar cane juice vendor, the piles of books, and the traffic…and the tree, giving shade.
We haaaaaaaates you!! :))
We haaaaaaaates you!!
Bah! Get in line with the rest of ’em kids!
That’s it. I’m calling Pradeep.
Whatever you’re doing, do it fast. V For Vendetta is coming to IMAX, this Friday.
