Ok, first time I’m listening to Guru ( AR Rahman, Mani Rathnam, Gulzar. Well? What are you waiting for?), and everything seems to be going hunky-dory. ‘Mayya’, the fourth track starts up. This is the song that has Mallika Sherawat doing an item number in the film. And GODDAMNIT!!! Rahman uses a flute sample which has been done to death. Two songs I remember using the same flute piece are ‘San Sanana’ from Asoka and a Safri Duo track ( Most likely ‘Snakefood’). Grrrrr.
I got a mail from Planet M, and as usual it landed up in my spam box. But I am a smart guy, so I go check my spambox every now and then before I say “delete all”. The mail said I get a 20% off for two weeks in Planet M, and needless to say, was mucho pleased. Went yesterday to Planet M ( to pick up Guru, of course), saw that the extended version of Season 2 of Lost is out, and went over to the salesmen with my handy M-World card, confident I would get the promised 20% discount. Wankers! They say I need a printout of the mail to claim it. Of course, I had deleted the mail, and because it was in my spam, it got permanently removed. But the mindboggling stupidity of the whole operation!! You numbskulls, I got the email from YOU! YOUR COMPANY sent me the email because YOU have my information on your database, and all you need to do is just check your records to see whether I get the discount or not, but no, you will just plead ignorance and ask for a printout just so that I get thoroughly pissed. Well, you can keep your motherloving discount, you hear? I am off to Supreme Audio in Koti to pick up Lost Season 2, where I can get a 20% discount anyways. Nyaah nyaah nyaah.

For Your Future Reference- when you get the email from Planet M henceforth scroll ALL the way down and get the MINUTEST FINE print that you ever saw that says that you hafta get a print out of the email when you come to avail the discount.
Also, who is AB Jr. modelled on in the Guru? Is it a biopic Iruvar-types?
I’ll tell you this much, the man should totally lay off pommade. It doesn’t do a thing for him!

But Guru is good overall no? I didn’t notice said flute sample; I will listen closer the next time.
I like the use of the electronic sounds with the dhol/tabla in Barso Re. Also, both the songs that Rahman sings are fantastic. On the whole, I thought it was a very good OST. What do you think?
Guru is quite good overall. I am taking it in slowly, one song at a time. :)
this reminds me of your post a while ago where you’d written about how Rahman songs “grow on you” and you very rarely instantly fall in love with it!
Lost is quite interesting. I caught a couple of episodes while my former room mate was watching it. I want to start from the beginning. Season One has been in my Netflix queue for a long while now.
Also – I saw Naveen Andrews on my flight to LA from Philly.
And Oh! I saw him with an older lady whom I didn’t pay much attention to.
She could be the one IMDB says is his girlfriend.
I remember Barbara Hershey from the first ever stash that Siddharth got for us in RECW. What stash, you ask? Eh heh heh heh.
Very interesting, indeed. I haven’t finished episode 24 of season 1. Waiting to do a marathon as soon as I get season 2 complete.

Yeah, well, I already have HDTV rips of the seasons. But I want to buy the box sets of both the seasons. The series deserves my money.
Sample Ramble
Agreed. That flute sample has been used my the mother*&#$er of all sample users – Karunesh. The song also happens to feature in one of the Buddha Bar compilations.
But then Bappi da compensates with his ‘yamoyamoyamo le’. Of course, all that – personal opinion.

I’ve tried Lost 2, I really did try it. But it’s all going down to hell now. The writing’s gone all clunky, the plot points don’t make sense, and the ‘character moments’ are as weak as 7 days.
