Death of a statue

There used to be a statue in the middle of the road in front of my office. It was that of the first Chief Minister in Andhra Pradesh, I believe, and it is being dismantled. There is a new flyover under construction, and the authorities decided to do away with it. I wonder what is going to happen to the statue – will it be put up again somewhere? Will they melt it down? Do statues undergo reincarnation? Why am I reminded of Oscar Wilde’s The Happy Prince as I see it being brought down?

    i know… Sango!

in erstwhile USSR territory, there are statue graveyards, where busts of lenin, stalin, gromykyo, khruschev, etc… languish in deathly pallor… not much the happy prince, but the ousted prince who makes way for the new government and it’s new publicity stunts… standard operating procedure…

  2. they’re doing it all over town

there was a statue of some guy (yet another CM i bet) smeared with golden color near the LVP hospital turn. this has been uprooted and planted just bang in front of KBR park.
and they’re turning the huge chasm in the road into a traffic island.
kbr is getting more congested day by day. you meet all kinds there now. weirdos who jump out at you from behind trees and mumfali walas who follow u till the road coz they thought you wanted 2 packets.
but there are still nice khopchas and other good places to pass your time in.
enough now, am getting nostalgic :o(

  3. Do you know the song “En Anbe” sung by ARR from Aha?

It’s the song of the month: It’s playing in a loop continuously in the car. (Actually its the only decent ARR song I could find in my room mate’s collection :))

Tell me about the movie… and the song!

    • Hahaha. That song is a major staple for me too, right now. Did you know that the children’s chorus has Rahman’s daughters singing in them?

I would have included it in the Feelgood mix, but the song is just too powerful to make you feel just “good” – it fills you with passion!

The movie is by SJ Surya, and stars him too. It’s his latest effort after New.
